| Event: | Aramaic Jesus in Sebastopol - Experience the Words of Jesus in His Original Language |
| Summary: |
Experience the teachings of Jesus in Aramaic – the native language of ancient Palestine and the language Jesus spoke when he taught and prayed. Explore the rich layers of meaning and blessing that live in his teachings, and feel their effect in your life. Take part in traditional prayer, chant, and contemplative practices that were common to Jesus, his disciples, and the people of the region. Monthly gatherings include opportunities for listening, repeating, and delving into the meaning of the Aramaic, as well as chanting, body prayer, contemplation, and discussion. Content is based primarily on the work of scholar and teacher Neil Douglas-Klotz, PhD, author of Original Prayer, Original Blessing, and Hidden Wisdom. Open to all, drop-ins and newcomers always welcome. |

This group began meeting in February 2011 and focused on the Lord's Prayer in Aramaic through February 2012. Exploration of the Beatitudes in Aramaic began in March 2012. "Chanting the words of a mystic or prophet in his or her original language allows us to access the inner sound and power of the words and to connect to the living feeling of the teacher who spoke them. Speaking, chanting, and intoning the words of Jesus – especially the prayer that he gave – give us the opportunity to connect directly with his consciousness. This is beyond any translation or explanation of the words themselves." |
