Shrines created by workshop leaders, Liza Brickey (L) & Sharon Landon (R).

You will need to bring your own pair of scissors to this workshop. You are also encouraged to bring your own personal materials for inclusion in your altar/shrine/reliquary. These can be any objects of deep emotional or spiritual significance. You decide what that means. And, if you can, please bring your own box, can, or other container to work with. We will provide one for you, if you need it.

Please note: No "art" skills are required! All you need is your imagination and the desire to enjoy your day. The people, pets or objects showcased in your creation(s) can be fun or serious. It's totally up to you to decide if you want to make an over-the-top, whimsical Mexican-style shrine with skeletons, flowers and tiny offerings, or a prayer box that is more serene to honor your favorite saint, Jesus, Mary or other figure of devotion. Or, you may choose to honor a beloved pet or relative who is no longer with you.

We will provide some supplies for you to work with - prayer cards and images of Christian religious icons - for other faith traditions, you will need to bring your own images), Mexican Loteria cards, colored foil paper, craft paper, hot glue guns, beads and trinkets, glitter and ribbons, acrylic paints and extra cans and boxes.

Suggested materials to bring for yourself or to share with the group may include:

sequins
ribbons, cording, rick-rack or lace trim
buttons
beads from old necklaces
plastic Mardi Gras beads
bottle caps
milagros and charms
paper doilies
plastic toys
game pieces
small flowers (plastic, silk or paper)
decorative wrapping paper
objects from nature - dried twigs, acorns, moss, tiny pine cones, shells or stones
coins or metal tokens
pages from old books of poetry
original illustrations or photos (scanned and/or re-sized as needed so they will fit within your can or box)
small religious statues
small tools such as jeweler's pliers, hammers, and hole punches
scissors with a decorative edge
