John Dornenburg has performed as viola da gamba soloist in Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Turkey, and across the U.S.A. He has appeared with the San Francisco Symphony, Istanbul International Music Festival, Carmel Bach Festival, Oregon Bach Festival, Aston Magna, York Early Music Festival, Regensburg Festival, Melbourne Festival, Berkeley Festival, and many others. He has made over two dozen CD recordings of Baroque chamber music, which include solo performances of music by Marais, J.S. Bach, Telemann, C.P.E. Bach, and Handel. Most recently he has completed a recording of unaccompanied music for viola da gamba by Hume, St. Colombe, Abel, Simpson, and Kühnel for the Centaur label. He was awarded the Soloist's Diploma for his studies with Wieland Kuijken at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague; prior to this he studied baroque performance practices with Nikolaus Harnoncourt at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. In the San Francisco Bay Area he directs the Sex Chordæ Consort of Viols, and also performs with Music's Re-creation, Magnificat, Philharmonia, American Bach Soloists and other groups. John has taught the viola da gamba at Stanford University since 1988, and he also lectures in music history on the faculty at California State University, Sacramento. In April 2005 he conducted four fully-staged performances of Claudio Monteverdi’s opera “L’Incoronazione di Poppea” at CSUS.
Yuko Tanaka, a native of Tokyo, Japan, is active as a harpsichord soloist, and ensemble player. She is a soloist at the Carmel Bach Festival and has performed at the Istanbul International Music Festival, Berkeley Festival, Bloomington Early Music Festival, and in broadcast events for National Public Radio and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. She performs with numerous ensembles including Musica Pacifica, Music of the Spheres, San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, American Bach Soloists, Musica Angelia Baroque Orchestra, Moscow Chamber Orchestra, and the The Women's Philharmonic. Yuko has given master classes and lectures at universities, including San Jose State University and Stetson University (DeLand, Florida). Yuko received a doctorate in early music from Stanford University and has studied with Margaret Fabrizio at Stanford University, Gustav Leonhardt in Amsterdam, and Ketil Haugsand in Oslo, Norway. She has recorded for Koch International and Delos International. In June, 2006, Yuko performed at Tage Alter Musik Regensburg (Germany) with Music of the Spheres.
