The Festival Consort’s Christmas Concert of Renaissance Music |
| Summary: |
Join the Consort for an evening of uplifting 15th and 16th century vocal and instrumental music, with Carol Menke, soprano, Chris Fritzsche counter tenor, and Douglas Mandell, tenor. Joining them will be Joanna Bramel Young, David Hogan Smith and Alan Paul. The Festival Consort has a large array of renaissance instruments, including recorders, crumhorns, shawms, lute, gittern, sackbut and natural trumpets, all authentic reproductions. Traditional carols, such as "Es ist ein Ros' entsrprungen", will be interspersed with works by Praetorius, Ciconia, Dufay and Josquin Desprez. Dufay's stirring "Gloria ad modum tubae" will be performed, with two trumpets and two voices. Also on the program is the exquisite "O rosa bella" by Ciconia.
